DeJesus will coach first base
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Chicago Cubs manager Lou Piniella said today at the kickoff of the Cubs Convention at Harry Caray's Restaurant in Chicago that assistant coach Ivan DeJesus will be taking over as the new first base coach for the year.
Matt Sinatro, who served as first base coach last year, will take on new duties of coaching the catchers and also helping out as a video coach and assistant to hitting coach Rudy Jaramillo.
"This is no reflection on Matt's job at first base last season," Cubs general manager Jim Hendry said. "He did a good job for us, but Ivan is probably going to fit in there very well this year considering his background as a former player and base stealer during his career. We need Matt's expertise in helping our catchers stay technically where they need to be. He'll be invaluable to us observing video as well as helping Rudy with our hitters."
DeJesus handled video duties last year and instructed the infielders. He'll continue to help Alan Trammel as infield coach. Mike Quade will remain the team's third base coach.
