SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Prospects Mike Olt and Javier Baez stole the show again in the Chicago Cubs' 7-6 loss to the Texas Rangers in 10 innings on Tuesday night.

The Good: Olt and Baez went back-to-back in the third inning, both hitting their team-leading fourth home runs of the spring and both going the opposite way. They were no-doubters. Olt added another RBI on a sacrifice fly and Baez doubled on a shot to left in the seventh, then stole third base. Ryan Kalish continued a hot spring, getting on base three times; if not for a scorer’s decision he would have been credited with three hits instead of just two.

The OK: Jason Hammel was staked to a 6-0 lead but started to give it back with some hard hits off him in the fourth and fifth innings. He left after five, giving up seven hits and four runs on 78 pitches. In terms of getting ready for the season, he’s on track.

“The last two innings [I left] some balls up in the zone that they hit,” Hammel said afterward. “Everything felt good. I felt strong. Threw some breaking balls early in counts. Not looking at the results I felt pretty good. … The only thing that bugs me is the walks. Been walking too many guys right now.”

Pitching rotation: Carlos Villanueva starts on Wednesday against the Colorado Rockies, followed by Jeff Samardzija on Thursday and Chris Rusin on Friday.
