GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Chicago Cubs shortstop Javier Baez left Friday’s spring game against the Chicago White Sox after hitting first base awkwardly while beating out an infield hit in the sixth inning.

Baez avoided serious injury and was diagnosed with a right heel contusion by the Cubs.

Baez came up limping and was attended to by the trainer before walking off under his own power.

He was 1-for-3 in the game and is tied for the spring lead in home runs with five.
