CHICAGO -- The Chicago Cubs got two home runs from Junior Lake to help Jeff Samardzija to his second win of the season. Here's a quick look at the game:

How it happened: Samardzija gave up a solo shot to Christian Yellich in the third, but the Cubs answered immediately, as Samardzija singled and came around to score when Emilio Bonificacio displayed some unexpected power with a two-run shot into the left field bleachers. It was Bonifacio's first home run in a Cubs uniform. The Cubs padded their lead with one run in each of the fifth, sixth and seventh innings, including a pair of solo home runs off the bat of Lake, his seventh and eighth on the year. With both Hector Rondon and Neil Ramirez unavailable to pitch due to high pitch counts Friday, Pedro Strop came in to work a perfect ninth and close out the victory.

What it means: The Cubs earned their fifth straight victory and guaranteed their fourth series win of the season and second in a row. Though still nine games under .500, the Cubs are playing their best baseball of the season and, maybe most importantly, playing with confidence.

Outside the box: With the draft concluding Saturday, it was last year's No. 2 overall pick who shined once again in the minors. Kris Bryant went 3-for-3 with a home run, a double and a walk for Double-A Tennessee. His slash line improved to an incredible .353/.460/.701 on the season, and Bryant holds a comfortable lead in the Southern League Triple Crown race with 20 homers and 52 RBIs.

Up next: The Cubs go for the series sweep Sunday afternoon with Jake Arrieta taking the mound against Henderson Alvarez.
