The Chicago Cubs are hoping to hear from the Hall of Fame some time this week about the Andre Dawson cap-choice controversy. The team would love to announce at Friday's Cubs Convention kickoff ceremonies that the former Cub outfielder's HOF plaque will depict him wearing a Cubs hat.

A Tribune story Sunday evening stated, according to a source, that the team will retire Dawson's No. 8 uniform if he has a Cubs hat on his Hall of Fame plaque. The story also stated that if Dawson is depicted in an Expos hat that they're unsure that his uniform number will be retired.
