Former Chicago Cubs minor-league manager Pat Listach most likely will not join the Cubs coaching staff for the 2011 season.
Listach, who interviewed for the Milwaukee Brewers manager job, will be retained by the Washington Nationals as their third-base coach unless he gets an major-league managerial job.
Washington is bringing back its entire coaching staff under former Cubs manager Jim Riggleman, according to a major league source.
There was speculation that Listach might join the Cubs as either the team’s bench coach or third-base coach.
There likely will be an opening as Cubs bench coach as Alan Trammell reportedly will become the bench coach for Arizona Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson.
Cubs manager Mike Quade and general manager continue to work on adding to the coaching staff. Pitching coach Larry Rothschild, hitting coach Rudy Jaramillo and bullpen coach Lester Stroge are the only certainties for Quade's staff at this point.
The Cubs could add to their staff this week before the organization meetings start Nov. 2 in Mesa. Right now, there's no word whether Triple-A manager Ryne Sandberg will be asked to join the major league staff.
