Chicago Cubs general manager Jim Hendry and assistant GM Randy Bush will be in Mesa, Ariz. beginning Thursday to prepare for the amateur draft, which runs June 6-8.
Scouting director Tim Wilken and the team’s top amateur scouts will also be in the war room.
The Cubs have the No. 9 pick in this year’s draft. Some draft experts are projecting outfielder Bubba Starling , 18, as the Cubs’ choice if he’s available at their spot.
Starling, who is 6-5, 195 pounds, is a football and baseball star from Gardner, Kansas. He also has signed a letter of intent to play quarterback at Nebraska, so even if he's still available, the Cubs will have to consider his signability.
Starling has selected super agent Scott Boras to advise him.
