Rapid Reaction: Cubs 2, Giants 1
Here's a quick look at the Cubs' walkoff win on Wednesday night.
How it happened: Ryan Dempster allowed only three hits in eight shutout innings and retired 20 in a row before being pulled after giving up a lead off double to Pat Burrell in the ninth. Carlos Marmol relieved Dempster but failed to hold a 1-0 lead as the Giants tied it up on Emmanuel Burris' RBI single. The Cubs, however, answered in the bottom half of the inning as pinch-hitter Aramis Ramirez singled in Tony Campana to give the Cubs 2-1 victory.
What it means: The Cubs still sit 15 games under .500. However, after allowing 19 runs in a double-header sweep to an abysmal Giants offense on Tuesday, a 2-1 victory that gave an overworked bullpen some much-needed rest, had to feel good.
Outside the box: When asked if he was worried about his overworked bullpen prior to the game, Quade sounded prophetic when he said, "Demp's gonna take care of me so I don't have to worry about it."
