MESA, Ariz. -- Catcher Geovany Soto could be out for at least a week as he recovers from a groin injury the Chicago Cubs continue to insist is very minor.
Soto has been out since the weekend with the groin issue as the training staff elects to play it safe with the team's starting catcher.
The injury has given manager Dale Sveum the opportunity to focus on the other catchers in camp such as Jason Jaramillo, Steve Clevenger, Blake Lalli, Wellington Castro and Michael Brenly.
"It's probably the first time in a camp where there are so many quality catchers that you have to keep your eye on and make that decision when we break camp," Sveum said.
Jaramillo is considered the favorite to land the backup catcher job behind Soto.
