Cubs-Astros set for 4:35 p.m. CST
By Doug Padilla
CHICAGO – After a lengthy rain delay, the Chicago Cubs game against the Houston Astros was set to begin at 4:35 p.m. CST.
The Cubs did not take batting practice before the game, but that was because the team arrived home from St. Louis in the early morning hours Friday. Players were allowed to arrive later than normal for what had been a planned 1:20 p.m. start.
"It ain’t as bad as you think," manager Dale Sveum said about the short turnaround from Thursday's night game at St. Louis to Friday's day game at Wrigley Field. "A lot of players get to bed late anyway. At least we didn’t have to travel far. If guys get six hours, seven hours of sleep I think we’ll be OK."
The tarp was rolled onto the infield long before the opener of Friday’s interleague series, the first one between the Cubs and Astros since Houston moved to the American League this offseason.
Cubs right-hander Matt Garza (1-1, 4.98 ERA) was set to oppose Astros left-hander Dallas Keuchel (4-3, 4.23).
