Cubs claim OF Neal off waivers

The Chicago Cubs claimed outfielder Thomas Neal off waivers from the New York Yankees on Monday. Neal, 25, was playing for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, New York’s Triple-A affiliate.
Neal appeared in four games this season for the Yankees getting two hits in 11 at-bats. He played in nine games for the Cleveland Indians in 2012 after being drafted by the San Francisco Giants in 2005.
The 6-2, 220-pound Neal has a career .301 batting average with 170 doubles, 70 home runs and 370 RBI in 701 minor league games covering eight seasons.
To make room for Neal on the 40-man roster the Cubs transferred pitcher Rafael Dolis to the 60-day disabled list. He’s been out since June 1 with a right forearm strain. Neal was added to the 25-man roster and will be elgible to play against the Phillies. Pitcher Eduardo Sanchez was sent to Triple-A Iowa. Neal will wear No. 54.
