Cubs claim Mat Gamel off waivers
By Jesse Rogers
CHICAGO -- The Chicago Cubs claimed infielder Mat Gamel off waivers from the Milwaukee Brewers, the team announced on Thursday.
Gamel, 28, missed the 2013 season with a torn ACL after missing part of the 2012 campaign with the same injury.
Gamel was originally selected in the fourth round of the 2005 draft. He’s played first, third and outfield for the Brewers while accumulating six home runs and 29 RBIs in parts of five seasons.
He first tore his ACL in May, 2012 and then again in spring training before the 2013 season.
