Pirates 6, Cubs 3
By Bruce Levine
The good: The Chicago Cubs tallied 11 hits and four players registered multi-hit games. Starlin Castro’s three hits were a team high. Castro’s two Web Gems were the highlight of the game defensively.
The bad: Ryan Dempster surrendered two home runs, which accounted for all six of Pittsburgh’s runs. A grand slam from the Pirates’ newest Cubs killer, Neil Walker, was the difference Friday. All 11 Cubs hits were singles.
Outside the box: The Cubs opened the season with an error free game and made only one mental mistake. Carlos Pena misread a sign and swung away on a 3-0 count.
Next: Carlos Zambrano takes on Paul Maholm in a 12:05 p.m. start on Saturday.
