Ramirez to miss Friday's game

By Bruce Levine

Aramis Ramirez will miss Friday's game against San Francisco to fly back to the Dominican Republic on personal business. He's expected back for Saturday's game.

  • Veteran left-hander Doug Davis will most likely join the Cubs on Friday in preparation for his first start for the team against San Francisco on Saturday night.

As an opponent, Davis had a 9-8 record against the Cubs.

Meanwhile, right-handed pitcher Randy Wells will go out on an assignment early next week as he continues his rehabilitation for a strained right forearm. Wells and right-handed pitcher Andrew Cashner went on the disabled list April 8th. Cashner, rehabbing a strained right rotator cuff, may be a week behind Wells in his rehabilitation outing.

The plan is that Wells will come back to the Cubs in their rotation. Cashner may be either a starter or return to the bullpen, where he was a successful set-up man toward the end of 2010.

  • Outfielder Brett Jackson came to Chicago on Thursday to have a hand specialist look at his bruised left pinkie. He sustained an injury on Wednesday night, getting hit by a pitch in a game against Huntsville.
