Here's a quick look at the Cubs' 5-1 win on Thursday night.
The good: Right-hander Casey Coleman pitched his best game of the season, striking out seven and walking five in 5 2/3 innings of shutout baseball. Center fielder Marlon Byrd flashed a power stroke for the second straight day, going deep for the second time in as many games. The Cubs’ bullpen continued its strong stretch, allowing just one run 3 1/3 innings of relief.
The bad: Right-hander Kerry Wood gave up the only run of the game, a solo bomb to Florida’s Mike Stanton in the eighth.
Outside the box: The Cubs and Red Sox do battle in Fenway Park for the first time since 1918 on Friday. Both teams will wear replica jerseys from that era on Saturday.
Next: The Cubs travel to Boston as Doug Davis (0-1) faces Jon Lester (5-1)
