Quade sets rotation for second half
By Bruce Levine
Chicago Cubs manager Mike Quade named his rotation to start the second half of the season. Matt Garza will throw Thursday against Florida, followed by Ryan Dempster, and Carlos Zambrano will start Saturday, which is the first day he's eligible to come off the DL with a sore back.
Quade also said Randy Wells will be either his fourth or fifth starter to start the second half.
"I'll decide on the other kids later on," Quade said.
Quade laughed when called on the fact Rodrigo Lopez, 35, and Ramon Ortiz, 38 aren't exactly kids.
"I call all the guys kids, they're all younger than I am," said the 53-year-old Quade.
Casey Coleman, who's at Triple-A Iowa, also will get consideration for a rotation spot.
"I'm looking forward to the break and regrouping and getting this thing back together," Quade said. "Let's finish up here, get to Phoenix, and get back home."
Note: The Cubs released infielder Augie Ojeda from his contract at Triple-A Iowa.
