By Bruce Levine
MESA, Ariz. -- Chicago Cubs catcher Geovany Soto said he will play in his first Cactus League game on Saturday or Sunday.
Soto has been sidelined with a groin strain since Feb. 18, the first day pitchers and catchers reported.
Cubs manager Dale Sveum said catcher Jason Jaramillo is having leg problems that do not allow him to catch in spring games yet.
Four players moved on into the final eight of the Cubs' bunting tournament. Sveum was eliminated in his match with pitcher Paul Maholm. Others advancing include Randy Wells, David DeJesus and Starlin Castro.
Cubs president Theo Epstein hosted a gathering at his Arizona residence for the front office staff on Monday evening.
Pitcher Jeff Samardzija makes his Cactus League starting debut on Wednesday in Surprise against the Kansas City Royals.
