Cubs release left-hander Trever Miller
By Doug Padilla
MESA, Ariz. -- On the day the Chicago Cubs added a veteran reliever, they parted ways with another as left-hander Trever Miller was released.
Aside from one rough outing when he gave up five runs in an inning on March 17 against the Texas Rangers, Miller had delivered a solid spring. Seven of his eight outings were scoreless.
In his final outing with the Cubs on Saturday he didn’t allow a run to the San Diego Padres, but he did allow both of his inherited runners to score with two outs.
Miller, who turns 39 in May, was a non-roster invitee to camp after signing a minor-league deal in January.
Earlier Monday, the Cubs added right-hander Shawn Camp to their bullpen mix. Camp had been released by the Seattle Mariners last week.
Major league camp is now at 40 players.
