Cubs designate Hinshaw, activate Parker

The Chicago Cubs activated pitcher Blake Parker from the 60-day disabled list and designated lefty Alex Hinshaw for assignment on Tuesday.

Hinshaw, who was claimed off waivers from the San Diego Padres on Aug. 19, surrendered three straight home runs in a disastrous nine-run ninth inning in a 15-4 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday. Hinshaw allowed five earned runs and four hits and did not record an out in the inning. He had an ERA of 135.00 in two appearances as a Cub.

Parker, 27, has been on the disabled list since June 6 with a right elbow stress reaction. He didn't allow a run in 4 1/3 innings over four relief appearances with the Cubs earlier this season in his major league debut. Parker, who will be available for Tuesday night's game against the Brewers, made eight rehab appearances with Triple-A Iowa before returning to the Cubs.
