St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Ryan Theriot had one request when he returned to Wrigley Field for the first time as an opposing player on Tuesday.

"Can we just stop talking about what I said," Theriot said.

The former Cubs shortstop was referring to a comment he made after signing with the Cardinals in the offseason. His quote was: "Now I'm on the right side of the rivalry."

That comment stirred up feelings among Cubs fans, and some players as well.

"Well yeah, what would you say," he said. "Let's just step back and think about it for a minute. When I was in Chicago, I was on the right side of the rivalry. Now I'm St Louis and I feel I'm on the right side of the rivalry now. C'mon."

Theriot was a popular player with the Cubs before being traded to the Dodgers on July 31 along with Ted Lilly for infielder Blake DeWitt and two minor leaguers.

The Cubs-Cardinals matchup stands on its own as a great rivalry, and that hasn't been lost ton Theriot.

"It's a good one," he said. "I think maybe even better because the last 10 years because both teams have been really good, so it makes it better."

Theriot will lead off for the Cardinals.
