The Chicago Fire have signed their fourth international player on Wednesday with the addition of Croatian midfielder Marko Maric.
Maric joins fellow countryman and defender Josip Mikulic and Uruguayan forwards Diego Chaves and Gaston Puerari as Chicago's international crop of players.
"We had the chance to evaluate him during our preseason camp in Florida and we're impressed with how he fit in with the group and believe he's a good addition to our club," Fire technical director Frank Klopas said in a statement.
The 6-foot-2, 27-year-old from Zagreb, Croatia, first played professionally for Croatian club NK Zagreb from 2003 to 2005. Maric most recently played for Greek squad Skoda Xanthi FC in 2010.
Maric's game-time experience over the past several years has been minimal, however. Maric only played in four games last year for Skoda Xanthi, and in his three-year tenure with France's Lille OSC he only saw five games. The last time Maric saw regular playing time was when he played in 41 games for Greek club Egaleo FC from 2005 to 2007.
