Fire open preseason with victory

The Chicago Fire opened their preseason schedule with a 1-0 win over Florida Gulf Coast University in Ave Maria, Fla. on Sunday.

Giuseppe Gentile, a recent addition to the team, scored the game’s only goal in first-half stoppage time.

The Fire return to Chicago on Sunday evening before returning to Florida to train at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., from Feb. 5-12. While in Florida they will twice face D.C. United on Feb. 8 and Feb. 12 and take on USL-PRO side Orlando City SC on Feb. 11.

The Fire’s first regular-season game comes on the road vs. Chivas USA on Sunday, March 9. Opening Day at Toyota Park is Sunday, March 23 against the New York Red Bulls.
