Derrick Rose couldn’t get to Peoria for Saturday’s Class 4A state championship game due to a scheduling conflict, but he knew what the result was going to be anyway.
It was no surprise to him his former team Simeon defeated Warren in the title game to win its fourth state title in six years.
“I think everybody knew that they were going to win it,” said Rose, who led Simeon to state titles in 2006 and 2007. “They had a good team, man. Hopefully, they keep winning ‘til coach [Robert Smith] or Jabari Parker, one of them leaves or whatever. But I’m happy for them, they played solid throughout the whole year, and I wish them nothing but the best.”
Rose plans on giving Smith a congratulatory call, but will wait a few days.
"Probably so, but I know right now he's probably getting calls from everybody, so I'm just going to let it die down, then I'll talk to him,” Rose said.
