Fenwick athletic director Scott Thies has replaced Joe DiCanio as the Friars varsity football coach, the school announced on Wednesday.
DiCanio had been Fenwick’s head coach since 2004. His teams made five playoff appearances, and he compiled a 46-40 record. The Friars were off to a 1-2 start this season when DiCanio was replaced.
No explanation was given for the coaching change in the school’s press release.
Aside from being the athletic director, Thies has eight years of football coaching experience as the head freshman coach and a varsity assistant coach.
“We are confident that Scott will do a great job with the program and build upon the strong tradition that coaches before him have established,” Fenwick principal Peter Groom said in a statement.
A message left for Thies was not immediately returned on Wednesday.
