Players put up big points on Friday night

The moon must have looked like a basketball on Friday night because something was in the air.

From North Chicago’s Aaron Simpson dropping 49 points to Niles West’s Jewell Loyd scoring 42 points, Friday will go down as a memorable evening in Chicago-area high school basketball.

Here’s a rundown of the top performances:

  • North Chicago’s Aaron Simpson scored 49 points and sank nine 3-pointers in his team’s 112-65 win over Wauconda.

  • Niles West’s Jewell Loyd scored all 19 of her team’s fourth-quarter points and scored six more in overtime to lead her team to a win over Glenbrook South. She finished with 42 points and 18 rebounds. She also went over 3,000 points for her career.

  • Prospect’s Mike LaTulip scored 44 points and made seven 3-pointers in a win over Buffalo Grove. In the losing effort, Buffalo Grove’s Luke Potnick put up 39 points and seven 3-pointers.

  • York’s David Cohn had 29 points, eight assists and five rebounds in a win over Glenbard West.

  • Simeon’s Jabari Parker had 23 points on 11-of-16 shooting, seven rebounds and six blocks in a win over Hyde Park.

  • Marshall’s Korbin McClain scored 30 points in the Commandos’ two-point win over Whitney Young.

  • Morgan Park’s Billy Garrett Jr. had 22 points, eight assists and four steals in a win over Kenwood.

  • Leo’s Russell Woods had 33 points and 12 rebounds in a win over St. Francis de Sales.

  • Oswego East’s Kenny Battle Jr. had 33 points, seven steals and six rebounds in his team’s win over Plainfield South.

  • Warren's Darius Paul had 18 points and 18 rebounds in a win over Zion-Benton.

  • Curie’s Cliff Alexander had 20 points, 12 rebounds and eight blocks in a win over Crane.

  • Farragut’s Rashaun Stimage had 13 points, nine rebounds and 11 blocks in a loss to Orr.

  • Ridgewood’s Peter Mroz had 33 points in a win over Timothy Christian.

  • Providence St. Mel’s Malik Marshall scored 34 points in a win over Ellison.

  • Riverside-Brookfield’s Damonta Henry had 28 points in a win over Glenbard South.

  • Providence’s Kevin Kozan had 33 points in a win over Bishop McNamara.
