Scott Powers for ESPNChicago.comParis Burns and Proviso East should be in for a good matchup with Warren in the City-Suburban Showdown on Saturday.
1. The most interesting game in Saturday’s City-Suburban Showdown at Proviso West looks as if it’s going to be Proviso East vs. Warren. The headliner -- Simeon vs. De La Salle -- has taken a hit in recent weeks with De La Salle’s struggles. That’s also case for New Trier vs. St. Rita with New Trier mired in a three-game losing streak. Proviso East and Warren have remained two of the most consistent teams in the area, and they’re both capable of giving Simeon a game. Proviso East and Warren excel in different areas. Proviso East likes to push the ball and is led by its guards, which includes Keith Carter and Paris Burns. Warren leans on its two versatile big men Darius Paul and Nathan Boothe. Another difference: Proviso East coach Donnie Boyce is in his first season while Warren’s Chuck Ramsey will retire after this season, his 37th.

2. Waukegan is a team putting it together at the right time. Since losing to Lyons 66-39 on Jan. 7, the Bulldogs have won their last eight in a row. They’re a No. 4 seed in the Barrington sectional and could be dangerous.

3. The East Suburban Catholic Conference has certainly seen better years. St. Viator jumped in the rankings this week, but even the Lions have had some questionable losses. Marist has shown some potential at times. Notre Dame has been up and down. Marian Catholic has a bright future with Tyler Ulis, but appears a year away. Benet has been better than expected with Sean O’Mara’s emergence, but the Redwings have been inconsistent. It’s also been a down year for St. Patrick.
