Simeon stood still and Proviso East continued to rise in the latest ESPNHS POWERADE FAB 50 boys basketball rankings.
Simeon stayed at No. 6 in the national rankings after improving to 26-1 last week with notable wins over Curie in the Public League championship and De La Salle in the City-Suburban Showdown. The Wolverines will be the Class 4A state favorite when the playoffs begin next week.
Proviso East jumped five spots to No. 21 in the FAB 50. The Pirates moved to 24-0 with wins over locally-ranked opponents Downers Grove South and Warren on Friday and Saturday. Proviso East could meet Simeon in the Class 4A state championship game.
Simeon and Proviso East were ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in the Midwest regional rankings. Curie (24-2) was also ranked No. 13 in the Midwest.
