Hoops Thoughts: GB North impresses
Here's a few prep hoops thoughts on this Thursday night.
1. Remember how I mentioned Glenbrook North as a team to watch out for just last week? Well, I think you saw how scary Glenbrook North could be on Wednesday. The Spartans defeated Waukegan, another team on the rise, 88-49 in the Central Suburban League championship. Glenbrook North shot 35-of-50 from the field. Glenbrook North junior center Andrew McAuliffe is returning to form as well after missing two months with leg injury. He was 9 of 13 for 19 points in the win.
2. The Catholic League North crown was also decided on Wednesday. St. Ignatius and St. Rita shared the crown with 8-2 records after St. Ignatius lost to De La Salle 56-48 on Wednesday. It’ll be interesting to see how the Catholic League fares in the playoffs. The conference’s top teams have taken a few bumps in the last few weeks.
3. Naperville North’s success has been a pleasant surprise this season. The Huskies won their first DuPage Valley Conference championship since 1998 on Wednesday. The Huskies defeated Glenbard North 65-51, and Glenbard East upset West Aurora 70-62 to give Naperville North the outright title. Naperville North’s Matt Stacho, Derek Westman, Dave Sinickas and Mike Keane combined for 41 points in the win.
