O'Toole leads player of the year race

Wheaton Warrenville South quarterback Reilly O'Toole put on a show again in Week 8 as he and the Tigers defeated top-10 ranked Glenbard North 49-6.

The ESPNChicago.com Player of the Year award is his to lose.

The race is now down to eight players.

1. Wheaton Warrrenville South senior quarterback Reilly O'Toole (previously ranked No. 1)

Last week: O'Toole completed 14-of-22 passes for 207 yards and three touchdowns in the Tigers' 49-6 win over previously unbeaten Glenbard North. Wheaton Warrenville South improved to 8-0.

Season: 93-of-129 passing for 1,725 yards, 26 touchdowns and one interception; two rushing touchdowns.

2. Plainfield North senior running back Kapri Bibbs (3)

Last week: Bibbs rushed for 279 yards and three touchdowns in his team's 34-14 win over Oswego East. Plainfield North improved to 6-2.

Season: 2,166 rushing yards and 32 touchdowns.

3. Elk Grove senior quarterback Nick Meyer (4)

Last week: Meyer did all he could in Elk Grove's 42-41 overtime loss to Prospect. He was 26-for-41 passing for 282 yards and rushed for 148 yards and six touchdowns on 26 carries. Elk Grove fell to 6-2.

Season: 144-of-234 passing for 1,835 yards and 15 touchdowns; 827 yards and 17 touchdowns on 140 carries.

4. Vernon Hills senior wide receiver DaVaris Daniels (2)

Last week: Daniels and his offensive teammates were slowed down in their 21-0 loss to Lake Forest. Daniels rushed for 105 yards on 13 carries and was 3-for-11 passing for 41 yards and two interceptions. Vernon Hills fell to 7-1.

Season: 7-of-17 passing for 112 yards and one touchdown; 11 receptions for 290 yards and four touchdowns; 363 rushing yards and six touchdowns; two punt return touchdowns; three interceptions and two defensive touchdowns.

5. Simeon junior quarterback Robert Gregory (6)

Last week: Gregory didn't have to do much again in Simeon's latest lopsided win. He was 3-for-4 passing for 93 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 82 yards and one touchdown. The Wolverines improved to 8-0.

Season: 44-of-75 passing for 880 yards and 12 touchdowns; 776 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns.

6. Joliet Catholic senior running back Josh Ferguson (8)

Last week: Ferguson was the difference in the Hilltoppers' 49-42 win over Marist on Friday. He ran for 254 yards and three touchdowns on 17 carries, caught one touchdown pass and threw one. Joliet Catholic improved to 7-1.

Season: 1,183 yards and 18 touchdowns on 91 carries; one receiving touchdown; one passing touchdown.

7. Schaumburg senior running back Shepard Little (7)

Last week: Little rushed for 178 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries in the Saxons' 35-27 win over Palatine. Schaumburg improved to 6-2.

Season: 1,452 yards and 18 touchdowns on 178 carries; two receiving touchdowns.

8. St. Rita senior running back Jahwon Akui (11)

Last week: Akui continued to keep himself in the race as he ran for 186 yards and three touchdowns in St. Rita's 37-0 win over St. Ignatius. The Mustangs improved to 8-0.

Season: 1,103 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns.
