VERNON HILLS, Ill. -- Kaneland quarterback Joe Camiliere hit a diving Tyler Callaghan in the end zone for a 10-yard touchdown with 9.8 seconds left to lift the Knights over Vernon Hills 27-21 in a Class 5A quarterfinal game on Saturday.
"We came up clutch," said Callaghan, who had five catches for 42 yards. "It seemed like whenever we needed a play we came up clutch and made it. We never say die."
Vernon Hills star DaVaris Daniels finished with 97 yards rushing and 69 yards receiving, including a 49-yard touchdown reception from Chris Argianas for the game's first score in the second quarter.
Top-seeded Kaneland (12-0) will play host to No. 6 Montini in a Class 5A semifinal.
"This is just something that we've preached all year long, to just keep playing," Kaneland coach Tom Fedderly said. "Forget about the last play, try to win the next play and these kids just kept battling."
