Lincoln-Way East senior quarterback Blake Winkler committed to Illinois State on Wednesday.
Winkler, who is 5-11 and 180 pounds, chose the Redbirds over Cornell, Grand Valley State, Princeton and Wheaton College.
Winkler was the Gatorade Illinois Player of the Year and an ESPNChicago.com all-area selection. He was 131-of-213 passing for 2,369 yards, 30 touchdowns and five interceptions this season. He also rushed for 94 yards and one touchdown.
“I felt for me to play football and get a good education this was the right place,” Winkler said. “Getting the Gatorade Player of the Year was a huge surprise and tremendous honor. Things have got better from there. Now that I got my decision made up, everything is falling I place."
Winkler finished his career as Lincoln-Way East’s all-time leader in passing yards (4,297) and touchdowns (51). He had a 19-3 record in his two seasons as starter.
