Homewood-Flossmoor senior forward Tim Williams has committed to Florida International.
Williams, a 6-8 swingman, chose Florida International over Bowling Green, Southern Illinois, Western Illinois and Toledo.
Williams is the second Chicago-area Class of 2012 player to commit Florida International coach Isiah Thomas, a Chicago native. Marshall senior Milton Doyle is also headed there.
“I was kind of star struck at first,” Williams said of Thomas. “You know he knows the game from playing and being a great point guard. He can teach a lot of things about the game. That helps you develop as a player.
Williams also starred at quarterback for Homewood-Flossmoor, but he decided to pursue basketball in college. He is expected to be able to utilize his versatility for Florida International.
“They see me playing the 2 guard and handling the ball a bit, but also going down low,” Williams said. “I like the offense they run. They got nice weather out there, too. That’s not a bad thing.”
