The Chicago White Sox’s roster is proof a majority of your major league players are often taken in the first few rounds of the MLB draft.

Here’s where the White Sox’s players were selected in past drafts:

First round

  • Starting pitcher Philip Humber (No. 3 overall by New York Mets in 2004)
  • Starting pitcher Gavin Floyd (No. 4 overall by Philadelphia Phillies in 2001)
  • Second baseman Gordon Beckham (No. 8 overall by White Sox in 2008)
  • Starting pitcher John Danks (No. 9 overall by Texas Rangers in 2003)
  • First baseman Paul Konerko (No. 13 overall by Los Angeles Dodgers in 1994)
  • Starting pitcher Chris Sale (No. 13 overall by the White Sox in 2010)
  • Right fielder Alex Rios (No. 19 overall by the Toronto Blue Jays in 1999)
  • Relief pitcher Matt Thornton (No. 22 overall by the Seattle Mariners in 1998)

    Second round

  • Designated hitter Adam Dunn (Cincinnati Reds in 1998)
  • Relief pitcher Jesse Crain (Minnesota Twins in 2002)

    Third round

  • Catcher A.J. Pierzynski (Minnesota Twins in 1994)
  • Relief pitcher Addison Reed (White Sox in 2010)
  • Relief pitcher Zach Stewart (Cincinnati Reds in 2008)
  • Third baseman Brent Morel (White Sox in 2008)

    Later rounds

  • 4th round -- Infielder Brent Lillibridge (Pittsburgh Pirates in 2005)
  • 5th round -- Relief pitcher Nate Jones (White Sox in 2007)
  • 8th round -- Relief pitcher Will Ohman (Chicago Cubs in 1998)
