Chicago White Sox manager Robin Ventura is put in a bind whenever his teams play a National League team on the road and is without a designated hitter.

Ventura had to wrestle with the decision who to sit against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field last month, and he chose to bench Dayan Viciedo and place Adam Dunn in left field. Viciedo ended up starting the last two games of the series after Paul Konerko was hit by a pitch in the face.

With the White Sox facing the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium beginning Tuesday night, Ventura had to deal with the same dilemma. And he again will remove Viciedo and move Dunn, who has 20 home runs and 46 RBIs, to left field against Cardinals starter Adam Wainwright.

Viciedo’s move to the bench does provide Ventura a valuable pinch-hitter. Viciedo is hitting .263 with 12 home runs and 29 RBIs.

The time off could also benefit Viciedo. He removed himself from Friday’s game because of tightened hamstrings and then missed Saturday’s game before playing on Sunday.

Here’s a look at the White Sox’s lineup against the Cardinals on Tuesday:

1. Alejandro De Aza, CF
2. Gordon Beckham, 2B
3. Dunn, LF
4. Konerko, 1B
5. Alex Rios, RF
6. A.J. Pierzynski, C
7. Alexei Ramirez, SS
8. Orlando Hudson, 3B
9. Jose Quintana, LHP
