MINNEAPOLIS -- Here is a quick look at the Chicago White Sox's 4-1 loss to the Minnesota Twins on Monday night at Target Field.

How it happened: The White Sox fell to a resurgent Francisco Liriano, who pitched through seven innings for the first time since Aug. 20 of last year and posted his fifth quality start in six outings since returning to the Twins rotation. Liriano allowed just one run on four hits, keeping the White Sox at bay as the Twins scored three runs on Jake Peavy in the game’s first two innings. Denard Span began the game with a double, scoring later in the first inning on Joe Mauer's sacrifice fly, and the Twins added a pair of runs in the second inning on singles by Brian Dozier and Jamey Carroll. The White Sox’s only run came on an Alexei Ramirez sacrifice fly in the seventh inning. Peavy gave up 10 hits and needed 109 pitches to get through six innings. Kevin Youkilis got his first hit as a White Sox on a single to center in the eighth.
What it means: The White Sox saw a two-game winning streak end and dropped just their second game in their last eight at Target Field. And they saw their AL Central lead remain at a half-game over the Cleveland Indians, who also lost on Monday.
Outside the box: Gordon Beckham, who was hitting .299 this month heading into Monday’s game, dropped back to the No. 9 spot in the lineup with Youkilis joining the White Sox. Manager Robin Ventura said Beckham will stay at the bottom of the lineup, but didn’t think the change would hurt Beckham at the plate. “He’ll still do well. He’ll be fine. It puts him in a nice spot. We’ve had issues at the bottom, too. I think it just extends our lineup.”
Up next: Gavin Floyd (5-7) takes the mound for the White Sox on Tuesday, facing struggling Twins pitcher Liam Hendriks (0-4). First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.

Sprinkles are one thing, but a heavy rain cell is coming right at us. It's not terribly big, though. Two outs top 9, White Sox up 3-1.
