Chicago White Sox starter John Danks received some much needed relief on Monday, getting a cortisone shot in his injured left shoulder to relieve some stiffness in the area.

Danks has a small tear in the back of the shoulder which doesn’t need to be surgically repaired. The course of action the team and Danks chose to take is rest and training in hopes that will build up the arm around the tear. There is no timetable for Danks to throw off a mound as of yet.

“I played catch today and I am doing all right, so I’m just keeping on with the program,” Danks said. “I feel like I am making progress and hopefully [throwing] sooner than later.”

The White Sox are hopeful that the 27-year-old lefty can return sometime in August as a boost for the rotation.

“We just played catch today and did not even do any long toss,” Danks said. “I just kind of threw the ball to just keep throwing and see where we are at. So we will just keep going with the arm program.”

Danks signed a five-year, $65 million contract in the offseason one year before becoming eligible for free-agent status. The Texas native was 3-4 with a 5.70 ERA in nine starts before incurring the shoulder strain .
