Here's a look at the White Sox's win in Kansas City on Sunday.

How it happened: The White Sox’s offense was hardly explosive – tallying just seven hits -- but when Chris Sale takes the mound, they haven’t needed to be. Sale began the second half in impressive fashion, scattering 10 hits over eight innings, allowing just one run while striking out four. Adam Dunn was the star at the plate for Chicago – his solo homer in the first inning started the scoring and he walked twice. Chicago’s other run came when Alexei Ramirez grounded into double play – a stellar effort by Kansas City third baseman Mike Moustakas – in the second inning. Addison Reed earned his 14th save of the season to wrap up the victory.

What it means: Sale’s effort was par for the course, but it’s a harbinger of good things as the playoff chase intensifies. If Sale keeps up his hot pitching and John Danks returns to his former ways, the White Sox are in good position to hold their lead and win the AL Central.

Outside the box: Dunn’s homer was his 28th of the season – good for the best mark in all of baseball. He is on pace to hit 52 homers on the year. His previous career high is 46 in 2004.

What’s next: The White Sox head to Boston on Monday. Dylan Axelrod (1-2, 6.15 ERA) will fill in for late scratch Gavin Floyd against the Red Sox’s Aaron Cook (2-2, 4.37 ERA).
