He has a no-hitter, a perfect game, 11 straight double-digit win seasons, a World Series title, and he's not done yet. Will Mark Buehrle be a Hall of Famer someday?

The notion makes the former Chicago White Sox pitcher laugh.

"I don't think I have the resume to be a Hall of Famer," Buehrle said Wednesday on "The Waddle & Silvy Show" on ESPN 1000. "I think you've got to get close to 300 wins, and I don't think I'm anywhere close to that. If I played for a lot longer, yeah, the chance would be better.

"When people say that stuff about going to the Hall of Fame I just laugh it off. Just because you throw a no-hitter and a perfect game doesn't mean you're going to get in."

The 33-year-old Buehrle, who signed a four-year, $58 million contract with the Miami Marlins over the winter after 12 seasons with the White Sox, has 170 wins heading into his start against the Chicago Cubs on Thursday. Even with three more productive seasons, his win total will still be a long way from 300, which is the magic number for induction into Cooperstown. The average career win total for pitchers in the Hall of Fame is 251, according to baseballreference.com.

And Buehrle, who talked about the possibility of retiring after his contract with the White Sox ended after last season, figures this four-year deal with the Marlins will be his last.

"I know I said it with the last four-year deal, but I can't see myself playing after this one unless it's to sign a one-year deal close to home because kids will be in school and they won't be able to travel so much," Buehrle said.

Buehrle has adjusted well to his new team and city, going 9-8 with a 3.13 ERA with Miami, and he is 2-0 with a 0.61 ERA in two July starts. He wanted to return to the only major league team he had ever known, but he knew the money wasn't there to make it happen.

"Obviously, I wanted to finish my career here," Buehrle said. "You spend so many years here you find a home and you have friends and everything here. In the beginning it was tough to leave but to be honest now it just feels like normal. It just feels like this is where I'm at and this is what I'm supposed to be doing. Looking back on it, it would have been nice to sign back here but the way the team was going, the money they had spent on certain guys, they couldn't spend any more money. That was just the route they had to go."

Can Buehrle see himself back in a White Sox uniform in 2016, when his Marlins contract is done?

"That's never off the table," Buehrle said. "After these four years it's going to be really tough to keep going, but you never know what's going to happen."
