CHICAGO -- Chicago White Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski will miss second consecutive game Wednesday because of a right oblique strain and is expected to return to the starting lineup on Friday.

“Right now, he’d be Friday,” White Sox manager Robin Ventura said prior to Wednesday’s game with the Minnesota Twins. “He could play. It’s just one of those we don’t want him to reinjure it and be out for any longer than he has to be. He can sit (Wednesday), get (Thursday’s off day) and be in Friday.

“He’s a tough guy. He could probably play through it. If he injures it worse, he’ll probably end up on the DL. It’s just better to be protective of it.”

Pierzynski is hitting .287 with 16 home runs and 50 RBIs this season.

Tyler Flowers will start in Pierzynski’s place for the second consecutive day. Flowers went 1-for-4 with a double on Tuesday.
