CHICAGO -- Chicago White Sox starting pitcher John Danks said he doesn’t feel any abnormal soreness in his left shoulder a day after an extended throwing session on Tuesday.

“Still sore and tight, but I just told (head athletic trainer Herm Schneider) that, and he said that’s good,” Danks said prior to Wednesday’s game. “I guess that’s good.”

Danks has been on the disabled listed since May 20 due to abnormal soreness in his left throwing shoulder. He last pitched for the White Sox on May 19. He made a rehab start in Triple-A on June 12 and again felt abnormal soreness following the start.

Danks said Tuesday he had taken a step in his rehab after a long-toss session, throwing 20 pitches off the mound. He said how he felt Wednesday would be another key to his recovery.

“I didn’t know what to expect to be honest with you,” Danks said. “I kind of had an idea I would be sore. I’m certainly that. I don’t think it’s quite as bad the last few times I’ve come off throwing.

“The last couple of days have been improvements. It’s definitely something I needed. Hopefully, we won’t be backtracked from there.”

White Sox manager Robin Ventura still believes it is too early to expect Danks back soon.

“Again, I would love for him to be back, but I can’t even go down the road we’re going to count on him for this,” Ventura said. “I want him to be healthy first before we do anything.”

Danks is 3-4 with a 5.70 ERA in nine starts this season.
