CHICAGO -- Here’s a quick look at the Chicago White Sox's 4-2 win over the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday at U.S. Cellular Field.

How it happened: The Sox’s big bats came through down the stretch once again. A.J. Pierzynski came off the bench to blast a go-ahead two-run home run in the seventh, giving the bullpen all it would need to secure a series win against the Angels. Alexei Ramirez added a RBI triple in the eighth. The only sour note of the afternoon was a right quad contusion that forced Francisco Liriano to exit the game after five innings, spoiling an otherwise impressive home debut as a member of the Sox. Liriano allowed one run on four hits, walked one and struck out four while 45 of his 72 pitches were for strikes. Kevin Youkilis tied the game in the sixth with a solo home run to left before reliever Nate Jones gave up a RBI single to Torii Hunter in the next inning. Pierzynski’s pinch-hit home run was the first of the season for the Sox, who rank third in the majors in home runs with 134.

What it means: The Sox have won three of five against the Angels this season and nine of their last 12 games overall as they get set to host the Kansas City Royals.

Outside the box: Pierzynski’s five straight games with a home run ties a franchise record, a feat that’s been accomplished seven times. Paul Konerko was the last to do it, homering in five straight games last season (June 17-21). This was Pierzynski’s third career pinch-hit home run.

Up next: Lefty Chris Sale (12-3) will start on nine days rest against right-hander Luis Mendoza (5-7) to open a three-game series against the Kansas City Royals on Monday. Game time is 7:10 p.m.
