CHICAGO -- Here’s a quick look at the Oakland Athletics' 9-7 win over the Chicago White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field on Saturday.

How it happened: The White Sox rallied from a 6-2 deficit to go ahead 7-6 in the seventh inning, but the Athletics jumped back ahead when they scored twice off reliever Matt Thornton in the eighth. White Sox starting pitcher Francisco Liriano was unhittable to start the game, striking out five of the first six hitters he faced, but his night took a downward turn not long after his early success. He allowed five runs in the third inning and was pulled in the fourth after giving up another run. Tyler Flowers swung the hot bat for the White Sox with three hits, including a double and home run, and three RBIs. Chris Carter had three hits and two RBIs in the win. Kevin Youkilis also had a two-run homer for the White Sox.

What it means: The White Sox remained in first place in the American League Central, but they could find themselves sitting with the Detroit Tigers in that position by the end of the night. The Tigers were tied with the Texas Rangers in the eighth inning at the conclusion of the White Sox’s game. The White Sox entered the day with a one-game lead.

Outside the box: The White Sox have hit 64 home runs in their last 37 home games. They have a total of 143 on the season and rank third in baseball.

Up next: The White Sox close out their three-game series with the Athletics on Sunday. Chris Sale (13-3, 2.59) will start for the White Sox, and the Athletics will counter with Bartolo Colon (9-8, 3.38).
