CHICAGO -- Here’s a quick look at the Chicago White Sox's 7-3 win over the Oakland Athletics on Sunday at U.S. Cellular Field.

How it happened: Chris Sale came out on top of what started as a good pitchers’ duel against veteran Bartolo Colon. The White Sox put up the first run of the game in third inning when Alejandro De Aza scored on Adam Dunn's sacrifice fly. DeAza had walked and gone to third on shortstop Cliff Pennington’s throwing error. The A’s Jonny Gomes tied the game in the sixth inning with his 14th home run -- a solo shot into the Sox bullpen. Colon had not given up a run in his three previous starts, but the Sox knocked him out in the sixth with a five-run inning. The hot-hitting A.J. Pierzynski worked his season-long magic one more time, taking Colon deep with Alex Rios on base. Dewayne Wise, in his first start since returning to the Sox, singled home a run and was followed by Gordon Beckham's two-run single to end Colon’s day. Alexei Ramirez had an RBI groundout in the seventh to cap the White Sox scoring, while the A’s added two late homers by Derek Norris and Adam Rosales.
What it means: The White Sox concluded their nine-game homestand with a 5-4 record. They now head to Toronto for a four-game series and then continue on to Kansas City for three games. The management team is looking for a speed player they can acquire in a waiver deal. Pierzynski’s 23rd home run in the sixth inning extended his hitting streak to 13 games. Carlton Fisk is the only catcher in franchise history to have more home runs in a single season.
Outside the box: Paul Konerko will be examined on Monday at Rush Hospital. It will determined if the first baseman can return to baseball activities on Tuesday. Konerko hopes to join the team in Kansas City on Friday if his concussion syndrome has subsided. … Kevin Youkilis missed Sunday’s game with a swollen left forearm. The third baseman was hit by a pitch on Saturday evening.
Up next: Sox right-hander Jake Peavy (9-8, 3.08 ERA) will take on Blue Jays right-hander Carlos Villanueva (6-2, 3.30) Monday night in Toronto.
