How it happened: Adam Dunn hit two home runs, including a game-tying shot in the ninth, but the Blue Jays came away with the extra-inning win. David Cooper's single to shallow right field off Nate Jones was the game-winner for Toronto, scoring Kelly Johnson. Jones allowed hits to both Blue Jays hitters he faced after coming in to relieve Leyson Septimo. Septimo walked, Johnson, the only hitter he faced. Jake Peavy pitched eight strong innings and Brett Myers and Jesse Crain combined for 2.1 scoreless innings. Peavy gave up two runs on five hits and two walks. He struck out six. Dunn’s other homer came in the sixth.
What it means: A loss against the last-place Blue Jays sliced the White Sox’s lead in the AL Central to 1.5 games over the Tigers, who were still in action against the Twins.
Outside the box: Paul Konerko, who didn’t travel to Toronto, checked out OK in his post-concussion exam. He will rejoin the team in Kansas City but it is uncertain when he’ll be back in the lineup.
