Here’s a quick look at the Chicago White Sox's 8-1 win over the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards on Wednesday.

How it happened: The White Sox snapped a five-game road losing streak behind the performance of starting pitcher Dylan Axelrod and by getting to Orioles starting pitcher Joe Saunders early. The White Sox scored four runs in the first inning and built a cushion for Axelrod, who was called up from Triple-A to fill in for injured Gavin Floyd. Axelrod did his part, too, allowing just three hits and one run in 7 1/3 innings. He retired 13 consecutive hitters during one stretch. He improved to 2-2 on the season. Alex Rios, Alexei Ramirez and Gordon Beckham each had two RBIs in the win. Beckham and Ramirez each had three hits.

What it means: The White Sox remained two games ahead of the Detroit Tigers in the American League Central. The Tigers were still playing the Kansas City Royals at the conclusion of the White Sox’s game.

Outside the box: The White Sox’s division lead has not been greater than 2 ½ games over the last 38 days.

Play of the game: Ray Olmedo replaced Kevin Youkilis at third base in the seventh inning. The inning’s first batter, Adam Jones, hit the ball Olmedo’s way. The ball skipped off Olmedo’s glove and flew in the air. In one motion, Olmedo grabbed the ball and fired it to first base while fading away. The throw beat Jones by half a step.
