Duncan's passing affects Sox GM Williams

CHICAGO -- The death of Oscar-nominated actor Michael Clarke Duncan not only affected the acting community, but also the Chicago White Sox's community.

Duncan, who died at 54 on Monday, was born on Chicago’s South Side, grew up a White Sox fan and continued to support his team throughout his life. He narrated the White Sox’s 2005 World Series DVD and created a friendship with general manager Ken Williams over the years.

Williams expressed his sadness for Duncan’s passing in a statement.

“Michael was a close friend,” Williams said. “He was the nicest, kindest guy anyone could ever know. He was a great fan of the Chicago White Sox and often called me to offer advice. His friendship will be missed.”

Duncan appeared in television shows and movies throughout his acting career, which began in 1995. He was best known for his Oscar-nominated performance as John Coffey in “The Green Mile”.
