CHICAGO -- Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Chris Sale isn't expected to be given any extended rest the remainder of the season, manager Robin Ventura said on Wednesday.

The White Sox have been careful in their use of Sale this season while he's transitioned from a reliever last season to a starter this year. He's been rested seven days or more three times this season.

The 23-year-old Sale is 15-6 with a 2.93 ERA in 163 innings and 24 starts this season. If the White Sox stick with their current rotation the rest of the season, Sale would make five more starts and would twice have six days rest between starts because of off days.

"We're past that point of giving guys chunks of time," Ventura said. "Probably an extra day or two, not skipping two starts or anything like that."

Ventura didn't believe White Sox rookie Jose Quintana would need any additional rest either. Quintana has allowed 12 runs in his last two starts. He lasted 3 2/3 innings against the Baltimore Orioles on Aug. 30 and 1 1/3 innings against the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday.

"He looks fines," Ventura said of Quintana. "You look at velocity and what's going on it. It's more locating. Pitchers go through things all the time. It's unfortunate to happen right then. He still has everything. When you're looking at it, he has movement, velocity, he has strength. He isn't locating."

The White Sox enter Wednesday one game ahead of the Detroit Tigers in the American League Central.
