MINNEAPOLIS -- The Chicago White Sox took care of business this weekend, sweeping the Minnesota Twins in their three-game series. Sunday’s win featured six solid innings from starter Jake Peavy and a diversified offense.

The offensive outburst made things easy for Peavy, who has not had a lot of runs to work with in 2012. The offense has supplied him with 4.81 runs per game, but only 3.97 in his past 18 starts.

Peavy has gone six or more innings in 26 of his 29 starts and his 11 wins this season are the most for Peavy since winning the National League Cy Young award in 2007 with 19 victories for the Padres.

Sox manager Robin Ventura took Peavy out after 101 pitches on Sunday.

“He worked hard in the [sixth] and you had [Joe] Mauer leading off the next inning, so it was big to get some runs,” Ventura said.

The Sox showed this series that they can score runs by other means than the home run. Only three of their nine runs on Sunday came via the long ball.

“It was good getting runs,” Ventura said. “Home runs are good, but I like the ones where we push a couple across here and there.”

The Sox pitchers held the Twins to just five runs and 12 hits in the three games.

“Minnesota is not having their best year,” said Peavy, whose past four wins have come against the Twins. “They are a scrappy bunch and to have eight lefties in [the Twins' lineup] today -- like I said, a good team win today.”

The Sox won 14 of the 18 games they played against the Twins this season and finally have a winning record in the American League Central (32-30) after winning three straight. They have another big division contest tomorrow afternoon when the second-place Detroit Tigers come back to town for a makeup game.

“We just really have not played good against Kansas City and Detroit,” Peavy said. “We have a big one tomorrow and I hope the fans realize that the game is not a scheduled one,” he said.

The sweep also helped a previously worn-out Sox pitching staff get ready for the Tigers and the rest of the road trip. The Sox starters allowed just four runs on eight hits in their 19 innings of work this weekend.

“It’s pretty nice,” Ventura said. “We have played well and we are playing good defense too.”
