CHICAGO -- Here’s a quick look at the Chicago White Sox's 5-4 win over the Cleveland Indians at U.S. Cellular Field on Monday.

How it happened: The White Sox’s offense finally came alive, and it couldn’t have happened at a better time. Trailing 3-2 with two runners on base in the bottom of the eighth inning, White Sox designated hitter Adam Dunn slugged his second home run of the game and put his team ahead for good. It was the first time in seven games the White Sox scored more than three runs and they snapped a five-game losing streak. Dunn also had a solo home run in the sixth inning. The Indians tallied a run in the third inning, added two more with a two-run home run by Russ Canzler in the sixth inning and finished with a run in the ninth inning. White Sox reliever Brett Myers picked up the win, and Donnie Veal notched the save. White Sox starter Chris Sale allowed 10 hits, three runs, two walks and struck out four in seven innings.

What it means: The White Sox remained one game ahead of the Detroit Tigers in the American League Central with nine games remaining. The Tigers defeated the Kansas City Royals on Monday.

Outside the box: Dunn became the sixth player in White Sox history to reach 40 home runs in a season. He joined Frank Thomas, Paul Konerko, Jim Thome, Albert Belle and Jermaine Dye. Dunn now has 41 home runs.

Up next: In the second game of the series Tuesday, Francisco Liriano (6-11, 5.24) will start for the White Sox, and Corey Kluber (1-4, 5.36) will go for the Indians. Game time is 1:10 CT.
