CHICAGO -- Here’s a quick look at the Cleveland Indians' 4-3 win over the Chicago White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field on Tuesday.

How it happened: A shaky outing by White Sox starting pitcher Francisco Liriano coupled with more offensive struggles led to the White Sox’s defeat on Tuesday afternoon. The Indians chased Liriano in the fourth inning after he allowed seven hits and four runs. The deficit was too much for the White Sox, who have scored more than three runs just once in their last eight games. A.J. Pierzynski and Dayan Viciedo hit back-to-back home runs in the fifth inning, and Paul Konerko hit his 25th home run in the ninth to account for the White Sox’s runs. Adam Dunn, Monday’s hero, was 0-for-3 with three strikeouts. Indians starting pitcher Corey Kluber picked up the win and allowed four hits and two runs in seven innings.

What it means: The White Sox are a half- game ahead of the Detroit Tigers in the American League Central. The Tigers face the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night. If the Tigers win, they will be tied with the White Sox with eight games remaining.

Outside the box: Pierzynski’s 27th home run of the season, putting him in second place for most homers in a season by a White Sox’s catcher. Carlton Fisk owns the record with 37 home runs in 1985.

Up next: In the final game of the series, Hector Santiago (3-1, 3.45) will start for the White Sox against the Indians’ Justin Masterson (11-15, 4.97) at 7:10 p.m. CT Wednesday.
